MAPLE Radio: Luke Solomon
Happy Holidays! Today, we're excited to share an exclusive playlist curated by Luke Solomon, a legend in the house music scene. Solomon's journey as a DJ commenced in the early '90s at Middlesex University, catapulting him into the upper echelons of house music. His collaboration with Derrick Carter, sparked in Chicago, culminated in the creation of Classic, a transatlantic house label that, over nine years, showcased talents like DJ Sneak, Tiefschwarz, Isolee, and Freeform 5. Despite amassing a devoted following, distribution hurdles forced Classic to conclude its run in 2006.
During this period, Solomon formed a lasting friendship with Honey Dijon, a spirited Chicago dancer, who subsequently became a contributor to Classic through her early releases. In 2011, Solomon transitioned into an A&R role for Defected records (across all Defected’s labels including DFTD, Classic, Strictly Rhythm, Faith, Nu Groove and Glitterbox), allowing him to stay ahead of emerging trends.
Fast forward to 2022 collaborating with his long-time associate Honey Dijon, Luke Solomon played a pivotal role as the co-writer and studio mastermind behind Beyoncé's tracks "Alien Superstar" and "Cozy" on her platinum album Renaissance. While these contributions have finally brought Solomon the recognition he deserves, his illustrious 30-year-plus career has long been cherished within the global house music community.
Take a moment to enjoy this special holiday playlist, thoughtfully curated by Luke Solomon himself.
